Fall Colors

Autumn is ending and Winter is just around the corner. While we have yet to have our first frost and many of the trees still have their leaves, the typical fall colors have definitely faded.

Thus, I will share some lovely pictures from only two weeks ago taken around my neighborhood.
Its hard to believe that only two weeks ago it was sunny and in the high 60's! Fall in the maritime pacific Northwest is certainly pleasant.

On this particular day there was a slight breeze and some of the first fallen leaves were scuttling around on the ground. It was warm enough for a tee shirt and 10 minutes into my rather brisk walk, I was already sweating! I soon stumbled unto an unusual sight: a japanese maple had begun to get its fall coloration, but only on the bottom branches! Usually you see coloration scattered all over a tree and this was very much secluded to only two branches. I've never seen anything like it. It was beautiful!

One of the things I love about my neighborhood is that there are a plethora of well maintained gardens and they all seemed to be glowing in hues of scarlet, gold and tangerine. With the blue sky as a backdrop, these colors took my breath away. The pictures barely manage to capture a fraction of the magnificence. Fall truly is my favorite season.
