This year, Christmas gave us more to celebrate than usual. We found out that we are expecting our first baby! I have been dying to share this with the world, but caution prevented me from blabbing too soon. It has been killing me to keep this secret, hence the blog has been unusually silent. My whole train of thought has revolved around the baby of late, and I find that there is little else that interests me enough to talk about.
Today I am almost 13 weeks and I had my second ultrasound. This ultrasound, combined with a blood test, was administered to find out the risk of Down's Syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities. I just thought it was fun to see the the little munchkin again! My last ultrasound was at 10 weeks and I was amazed at how much growth and development had taken place in two short weeks! He/she went from being a small bean with arms, to something that actually looked like a baby!
It was also incredible to see all of the movement that babies at this stage exhibit. He/she was moving all around, not staying in one place, twisting, turning and flipping! It took a whole hour to get all the pictures we needed. The baby would NOT get into and stay in the right position. I had to dance around the room, jiggle my abdomen and move into all of these weird positions, just to get the baby into the right place. FINALLY the ultrasound tech got the pics she needed for the test.
I did ask the tech to look to make a guess as to the gender (its really too early, but I thought we might as well take a look), but the baby's butt was firmly planted in a seated position, and no amount of shaking and knocking would move him/her. So I guess I will have to wait until week 20 to find out the gender. The tech did mention however that the placenta was on the left side. According to Ramzi's Method (http://hcp.obgyn.net/content/article/1760982/1878451 ), that means that there is a 97.5% chance that it is a girl! Of course, we won't really know for sure until 8 more weeks pass. Longest 8 weeks of my life!
Anyway, we are pretty thrilled with this development (as if you couldn't tell) and are eagerly awaiting becoming parents at the beginning of September! Below are some of the pics from today's scan:
