First Haircut

William got his first haircut today. Part of me wanted to go to a professional and have them do his first cut, but the other part of me didn't want to spend $30 for what I could do for free. We used the electric clippers, which is also what I use to cut Michael's hair once a month.


We stripped him naked except for his diaper and put him into his high chair. I couldn't decide what size cutting attachment to use, but in the end I went with a #4 for the neck/back of the head, and #6 for the top of the crown and above the ears. Even though these attachments looked super big, in the end this was actually a little too short for my liking. I think next time I will go with a #8 attachment.


In any case, I thought the noise would totally freak him out, and it did at first, but he liked the buzzing feeling on his head so much that he calmed down quickly and let me get on with the task at hand. The whole thing was done in less than 10 minutes and with minimal complaints. His hair is so fine that it was actually a little more difficult than I thought to cut it. It kept slipping through the attachment and I'd have to go over the same area several times to cut all the hair. I saved a lock of his hair from the base of his neck, where he had the most adorable curly mullet. I will miss that cute little mullet. He looks so much older and more boy-like now.

As a side note, I also got a haircut today, so we both get to show off our new dos! :)
