New House Update #2

Up until this point we have been (patiently or maybe not so patiently) waiting for our site plan to be finalized. That is the last step before final submission to the city to get the permit. We have submitted copies to the city multiple times and have gotten feedback on changes that needed to be made (such as drainage mitigation and making sure the house had all of the features required by the city), then each time we waited weeks for those changes to be made before resubmitting. We went back and forth a few times working on that (its a long process each time it goes between the city and the builder. This has been going on since January!) and now we finally have what we believe to be the very last, final draft for the city to look at.

From here we resubmit (tomorrow is the big day supposedly), and wait. The city's wait estimate is 2-4 weeks (but based on the way this process has gone so far, I would not be surprised if that wait stretches to 6 weeks, even though our builder assures us that 2 weeks is more likely). I guess we will see about that! I have my doubts. At any rate, lets say that in 4 weeks we finally have a permit. After that things will start to move quickly. The old house will be demolished tout suite and we will be looking at a move in date 6 months from that time. So, my best guess now is that we will be moving in around the middle of January (assuming the holidays potentially cause some delays in finishing details). I would NEVER have guessed that when we won the bidding war for this house last June, that we would still be waiting on permits a whole year later. But we have no control, and no choice but to continue waiting. At least I am sure that these next 6 months will be a lot more exciting than the previous 6 months, while we watch our dream house take shape :)
