As of this morning, Eleanor now weighs 21 3/4 lbs, has a head circumference of 18.5" and is 32.5" tall.
She learned the sign for 'milk' finally. But instead of squeezing her clenched fist like she is 'supposed' to, she shakes it up and down in a hammering motion. She looks like she is playing a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and is coming up with Rock. Its pretty funny. So for signs, she now knows: more, all done, yes, no, and milk. Shes also said her first real word the other day: "ball." She even pronounced the 'Ls.' I was pretty surprised and you could tell how proud of herself she was. Hopefully soon she will be able to say more and more words, though heaven knows the girl has zero trouble communicating!
Nursing is going a lot better this month and she seems to be having something of a growth spurt. The last two nights for dinner she ate nearly as much as I did! One night it was a bunch of broccoli, 3/4 of a chicken breast, some rice and some fruit. Another night it was 4 meatballs in sauce, peas, bread and several cubes of melon. Plus shes been nursing up a storm all throughout the day.
Not only does she love to comfort nurse during the day (she likes to pop on for 2 minutes at a time, every 15 minutes all day long), but now she "tells" me where she'd like to nurse. Like a tiny drill sergeant, she grunts and has me pick her up, pulls on my shirt (her signal to nurse), and then points dramatically to the couch, as if to say, "I must eat now woman. To the couch with you!" Its very cute . . . also kind of annoying. She is ensuring that I might get sick of nursing earlier than I had anticipated ;)
She is the same age as Will was when he suddenly became attached to the puppy stuffed animal in his crib. Nora has a bunny we have named, 'Lola' and she has taken to carrying it around everywhere and even refuses to eat or nurse without it. Will of course, loves to take it from her and its become the source of much strife. But it sure is cute to see her carting it around everywhere and snuggling with it in bed.
I was showing Will my most recent manicure and he studied my nails and said, "wow!" And so Nora gestured to me that she would also like to see my nails. I held them up for her and she studies them, then pops the pacifier out of her mouth and said, "oohhhhh!" then promptly popped it back in. It was the cutest thing! Shes also finally come to be really interested in her own fingernails and will now allow me to cut them with minimal resistance and will even let me paint them. She then admires them the rest of the day and will even show them off to daddy.
She is really interested in rocks lately. She loves to throw them and eat them. She sees a rock pile and gets all giddy. Its pretty funny to see actually. I have to make her spit rocks out on a daily basis it seems. Now that we've put in a gravel walkway through the backyard, her favorite thing is to dig out the rocks, put some in her mouth and then bring me handfuls as a gift. Once I see that her mouth is full, I have to make her spit those out as well. It must be an interesting texture or something for her to keep doing it, over and over again.
Nora is also really into all things girly. Dress up clothes, faux jewelry, baby strollers and dolls, fancy dresses, play kitchens . . . basically all of the most stereotypical "girl" things, are her preferred activity (though she does also LOVE digging in rocks and sand). We go visit these play gyms full of cars and trucks and slides, and she will find the only baby stroller and push it around the whole time. Will is off playing with trains and shes cooking in the play kitchen. Its so funny to me how young these gender differences seem to make themselves known!
This is a fun age. She is a funny little thing. She's very self possessed and determined. If Will does or has something, she needs to do that thing too. Yesterday she climbed up this rather complicated ladder at the park, all by herself, with me just spotting her below. She makes her wants and needs very well known and doesn't need to talk at all. She walks around with this serious little mug all the time, and yet I can get her to giggle at the drop of a hat. She is very much her own little person with very specific ideas of what she wants and needs. She is also personable and smart and loves to be around people, interacting and playing. I just get the biggest kick out of her. She is my sweet little sidekick.
