The other morning I go into Will's room to wake him up for the day, and he pops out of bed like he has springs under him, and announces that he is already dressed! He had on pants that were inside out and backwards, an inside out and backward shirt, and socks of two different colors. I asked him if he got dressed in the dark and he proudly proclaimed, "yes!" It was the funniest thing ever!
Will helped me to plant some lettuce seed in our raised beds, and I was telling Michael about it over dinner. Michael asked Will, "are you a good farmer?" And Will responded, "no! I am a good lettucer!" I had to laugh!
He said one of the funniest things ever yesterday. He saw my bra lying on the floor, casually picked it up, studied it for a moment, and then asked, "mom, is this your boob pouch?" I just about died laughing! I suppose that is a very accurate description for that particular device ;)
He is so complimentary lately. He constantly tells me, 'mom, I like your pretty nails/hair/dress.' Its nice to get so many genuine compliments coming my way! He has also started calling me 'mommy' instead of 'mom', and calling Michael 'daddy' instead of 'dad.' Its a very cute phase and I must admit it endears him to me even more. Hes been all around a much nicer kid to be around lately. I realized just the other day that he hasn't had a tantrum in months and hes been much more cooperative and easy going. Maybe things will be easier from here on out. I can hope at least!
Michael was also telling me about a funny encounter he had with Will the other day. He was towing both kids in the bike trailer and was making a right hand turn. He put his arm out to signal to cars that he was making the right, and he heard Will say, "Dad, no dancing!" Michael was confused, and asked him if he was talking about the fact that he had put his arm out to signal. Will affirmed that he had seen Michael stick his arm out and that he didn't want him to do any more dancing. Bike rides are serious business! What a funny little guy!
I took will to see his first theater movie today: Finding Dory. He did pretty well. He was scared by some parts, and started to get antsy and requested to go home during the last 3rd of the movie, but he made it to the end and asserts that he had a fun time and wants to see "Moana" next in November ;) The hardest part was that he was not heavy enough to keep the folding chair from collapsing, and so he had to sit in my lap!
He is very interested in spelling lately. He loves to ask me to spell different words, and will spell out the letters of signs as we drive past and ask me what the letters say. Recently hes started to list off a string of random letters and ask me what he is spelling. I usually have to break it to him that hes spelling nothing.
Hes very excited about his upcoming birthday and takes every opportunity to tell me (and anyone else who will listen - including strangers at the grocer store), that he is turning 4, and that his birthday is in X number of weeks. He also loves to tell me new things every day, that he would like for his birthday. Its an ever growing list. I hope he is not too disappointed when the day comes!
All in all, Will has been just a pleasure to be around lately. He is pleasant and cooperative. He is willingly eating his meals more often and without prodding, has been trying veggies (like carrots, lettuce and peas) out of the garden and proclaiming that he likes them! Hes been doing chores around the house and has been a lot nicer to Nora lately. I am so hoping that all this means we are through the worst of the terrible 3's! He finished his first year of preschool and has changed so much in the past 6 months. I can't believe he is going to be 4 next month. WHERE has the time gone?!
Look how much he grew this school year! |
