Her voracious appetite is as strong as ever. She always out-eats Will and generally walks away from every meal with a round, taut little belly. Its to the point where I wonder where she puts it all, since she is only in the 2% for weight! While she is great in the eating department, her attitude has taken a major dive lately. Shes suddenly more volatile, and prone to tantrums. Her favorite thing is to scream in a VERY high pitched tone, bite something viciously (she put major tooth indentations into her changing table the other day) and throwing her body dramatically onto the floor, while continuing to scream and cry. Just getting her into her car seat requires some WWF style wrestling and when I emerge the victor, I'll admit that I am usually sweating. We have had these battles in the past and they are usually shot lived phases, and I am hoping that is what this is as well. Welcome to the beginning of the terrible twos!
Another battle we've been having with her, is what clothes she will wear. She suddenly has very particular tastes and will put up quite the fight if she doesn't like the outfit I've selected. Even allowing her to pick from 2 or 3 choices does not always guarantee success as she will sometimes pitch a last minute defense. Also with the weather being so warm lately, she has REALLY not wanted to wear her sleep sack to bed lately. I understand this as it is warm when she goes to bed, but it tends to cool down at night and I've been concerned that she will get cold in the early morning hours. She is insistent however and so far not wearing it has not impacted her sleep thank goodness. This wee girl may not talk, but she makes her desires VERY well known (as Michael found out when she threw her pacifiers at his head in protest!).
She is learning more and more words. She can now say, "poop" (thanks Will!), "please," "help" and "up." She also recently learned to nod her head 'yes' and has said her first two syllable phrase, "thank you." That last one was a big one and she was SO proud of herself for saying it (as were we of course). Though she will only say most words if coached, and rarely on her own, its encouraging to hear her attempting new and different words all the time! I figure at this time, shes got about 15-20 words or gestures that she can say (again, when prompted) if she feels like it. But for the most part shes still silent. When Will goes to preschool and she and I have the day together, the house is SILENT (which is lovely).
Suddenly she can get her own shoes on and off on her own, and her climbing skills have dramatically improved. She has always wanted to follow Will on the playground and now, to some extent, she finally can. Shes also finally learning to ride Will's old tricycle. She hasn't figured out how to pedal yet, but she rapidly uses her feet, Fred Flintstone-style. The two of them make many loops around the playground and go faster and faster each time. Its fun to see them play together in a more meaningful way.
Despite her starting to enter the terrible twos, she is still a really lovely child and a delight to have around. She loves to cuddle and will offer kisses spontaneously. She can be reasoned with (which is huge!) and is very easy going and a tremendous eater. She is still napping 2 hours each day and her and Will generally keep the same hours (though she tends to sleep a little less). She loves babies (the real thing, not dolls), and is an excellent sharer. Shes often content to just sit in my lap and watch whatever it is I am doing. The zoo is her favorite place to go and she will spend as much time as possible at each exhibit, soaking in the sights. I have to pry her away from each one, only to have the next one suck her in! I am really enjoying the one on one time we get when Will's at school. We have the best time together and it really highlights what an easy child she really is. I just enjoy her so much!
