Nora is learning all sorts of new words lately. I feel like I've heard her say a new and different word, nearly every day here recently! Just this week alone shes learned the following words: apple, hippo, happy, daddy, mommy (before it was just 'mom'), puppy, dot, and hot. Plus she at least attempt just about any word you ask her to.What a change from just a month ago. Our pediatrician was starting to get concerned about her at her two year appointment, but after these last few weeks, I think there is nothing to worry about!
She is learning to be more physical lately too. She climbed or fell out of her crib the other night, for the first time ever! She has been fighting bedtime a bit lately. I'll tell her its time for bed and she shakes her head 'no' vigorously. We'll put her down at normal time and she'll be awake for an hour, yelling, and stomping her feet in her crib or jumping (we can hear the loud pounding noises from our office below her bedroom). Naps have been all too short lately too and the other day she woke up early and not only threw all of her books off the nightstand, and everything out of the crib, but she knocked the large mirror hanging above her bed, down. Thank goodness she didn't get hurt! The thing that I've started to do that finally got her to calm down enough to go into her crib, is to hold her and dance while singing the sandman song, and then once she goes into her crib, I tell her everything we did that day, in a very soothing voice. Shes still up for a while after that, but at least its stopped the screaming the minute her feet hit the sheets!
She has been mimicking us left and right, but especially me. She watches me like a hawk and takes in all the details and then copies what I do. For example, we ate lunch together the other day, and she took a bite when I took a bite, made the same sounds of enjoyment, drank when I drank and even asked to have hot sauce in her mac and cheese, the same way I did. Its soooo cute! I am loving this age right now. She is clearly in a major developmental spurt right now and suddenly is expressing herself so much more clearly and is understanding way more things like color and numbers. Shes grown taller and put on weight as well, so its exciting to see some growth and development after a few months of stagnation!
Shes been sharing her second pacifier with Will. Those two pacifiers are her prized possessions and now at bedtime and first thing in the morning, she will grab both pacifiers, and hand one to Will, which he happily accepts. Its really funny when we are all lying in Will's bed together, reading books, and each kid has a pacifier. It cracks me up! The other funny thing she has been doing lately is grabbing hands and showing us what she wants. Usually she'll grab my hand and pull me over to show me something, or ask me to do something (lift her up, or help her push a button, etc.), but today Michael and I were sitting next to each other, and she grabbed each of our hands, and made us hold hands. It was just the cutest thing!!
Nora is in just the best stage right now. She is interested in learning how to do just about everything and is just so observant, nothing gets past her. She is communicating better than ever and she and Will are getting along better. This whole month has been a lot easier than months prior and that makes things more fun for me. I love being able to take them both places now and have them enjoy things on a more equal level. I'm sure we have some more challenging two year old behavior in store for us, so I am happy to enjoy this relatively peaceful time with her!
