William 5.8

For the most part William is a happy little guy. He is forever singing and humming and making noises. He actually has a good little voice and learns songs relatively fast. Its cute to hear him singing around the house. Its funny how much I've gotten used to all the noise that he makes though. A few months ago his cousin was visiting and she was commenting about how LOUD he is and would he please just stop the constant singing. It wasn't until she said something that I even realized he was doing it. Apparently I've gotten good at tuning it all out!

Although Will has been pretty precise in his language for a while now, there are two last cute words that he still mispronounces and I cannot bring myself to correct him. The words are 'exca
vator' (Will pronounces it "expidator"), and 'ear muffs' (Will says "ear mupps," and now Nora calls them that too).  The funny thing is, I'm sure if he realized that he was saying them wrong, he would try really hard to fix his pronunciation. With him going to kindergarten next year though, I am sure that they will not last for much longer, so I will enjoy them until then.

On the way home from Costco, we passed a truck pulling a boat on a trailer. Will said, " look, a motor boat!" And Michael replied, "I'm going to do some motor-boating later"(jokingly referring to me). And Will replies enthusiastically, "I'm going to do some motor boating too!" and Nora pipes up to say, "I want to do some motor boating too!" At this point Michael and I were chuckling hopelessly. The kids were so not in on that joke!

Will has been working hard to be kinder to his sister. Some days are better than others, but overall hes making real strides and I do see him trying very hard most days. I've been talking to him about why its so important to be kind to her and if he can treat her nicely their whole lives, they can be good friends when they grow up. Will thought about this and told me the other day that when he grows up, hes going to follow Nora wherever she goes, so that they can live near one another and their kids can play together. I thought that was very sweet!

Hes been a good big brother in other ways too. He will frequently watch Daniel for me for a minute or two when I ask him to. He loves to push him in the stroller and lately hes been wanting to push his swing at the park too. The other day both Nora and Daniel were on the swings together, and I had to grab something on a bench several yards away. When I came back, Will was diligently pushing both kids and was SO proud of it! I was just surprised that Nora let him. Usually she tells him 'no' when he tries (shes had some bad experiences with his pushes!). It was a cute scene!

Its now been a month since he started his new chore and allowance routine. I really thought he was going to fight us on it and that I was going to have to nag him to do them, but I couldn't have been more wrong. He has emptied the compost and the trashes every day without complaint, and never hesitates to do them when asked either, even when hes in the middle of a show or a game. He just promptly his pause and takes care of business! He earned enough after two weeks (along with the rest of the money in his savings jar), to buy a cool new lego set. He was so proud to spend that $21.98! He took his bag of money to target and walked out with the biggest smile. He already has plans for the next month's worth of money too! I'm glad he is being so responsible with this. Its just one more way that I see him growing and maturing.
