Eleanor 4.9

All of a sudden, Nora has become very conscientious about her naked body, and requests privacy any time she is changing her clothes now. Although she doesn't seem to have any problem taking baths with Daniel yet. She just wants privacy from adults apparently. But its good that she is learning boundaries and to be more aware of her body and personal space!

She has been working hard on and improving her climbing skills, and now follows Will into most trees. However, she doesn't get nearly as high as he does yet, and I'm glad shes being cautious! She is also working toward being ready to take the training wheels off her bike soon. Shes been practicing standing on her pedals to go uphill, and using her brakes when going downhill, and can go pretty fast on the flats. I hope this summer she will be ready to make the transition, she will go a lot faster and quieter once she does.

Another skill she learned this month, is how to swing herself (finally!). She just figured it out one day while playing on our neighbor's swing set, and now she can do it on most swings (though for really long or heavy swings, she still needs a push to get going, but then she can take it from there). She has spent many an hour, practicing this new skill, and it means that she is finally excited to out outside and play, without me goading her to do so. I am thrilled on both counts!

Finally, after the debacle of the dreaded ballet lessons ended, she started tumbling class, and that has been going really well. She loves her teacher (actually the same lady teaches both Will and Nora) and tries hard and has fun in class. Her teacher has told me several times that she is amazed at how Nora is the only one in class who can do a lot of the more advanced moves. I have to tell her that Nora has Will to keep up with, and since hes so gymnastically inclined, it makes sense that shes a bit more advanced too! This teacher actually does not allow parents to be in the class, so I sometimes watch through the door. The community center where the classes are held, also has a baby play room that is open at the same time as her lessons, and its just in the room next door, so I will take Daniel over to play while she tumbles. Then afterwards we go out and play on the fabulous playground that is just outside the community center. Its been a fun and convenient lesson time slot for all of us, and we are all really enjoying it.

Nora's never ending snot is still going on (since October!!). After two rounds of antibiotics and lots of allergy meds, I think she might be allergic to something (that the meds clearly aren't helping). Shes been itchy a lot and also gets a rash on her butt from time to time. So I think I'll have to take her back to the doctor for a 3rd (and possibly 4th) time to see if we can get some testing done to figure this out. Something is not right here and she keeps telling me how tired she is of always having a stuffy nose. I certainly can't blame her :(

Nora just had a growth spurt and is now as tall as Will was when he was 5. She is looking so big lately, hardly any trace of baby left at all. But she still loves to cuddle and do girly stuff with me (paint our nails, do our hair the same, do facials with me, etc). lately her favorite question is, "what does that mean?" For example, I will say, "ok we are leaving in a few minutes!" And she will respond, " what does 'a few' mean?" Or "what is a minute?", "What is an hour?", "when is tomorrow?" and "what is Tuesday?" She asks several of these types of questions, every hour of every day. She is clearly trying to make sense of the world and learn to understand our units of time measurement!

One last cute thing is that she learned this month that height doesn't equal age. When we measured her and she had finally reached the same line that Will was at when he was 5, she excitedly ran out of the room, proclaiming, "Will! I am FIVE now!!!" Will said, "no you're not! Your birthday isn't until August!" She clearly had no idea what that meant, and I had to tell her that she was 4 until she had her birthday, and that just because she was as tall as a 5 year old, doesn't mean she is actually 5. She was a little crestfallen then!
