Is it just me, or is everyone having babies right now? Everywhere I go, I see strollers and babies galore. I have several friends who are pregnant and most of all, my sister is pregnant! I am going to be an aunt! I have heard this trend referred to as "Recession babies." Whether this is a trend or tons of people just happened to be getting busy last March or April, I find myself being swept into this baby tide. To truly get into the spirit, I decided to combine my love for babies with my love for knitting, and make some baby clothes.
Up until now, I have not been creating the most challenging knit projects. Socks, dishcloths and scarves make up the entirety of my knitting repertoire. I feel the need to branch out and so I started a skirt, have plans to make a baby singlet, and have completed my first two sets of baby booties. I know, I know, booties are not all that different from socks, but their construction is pretty different even if they look similar. I tried two different kinds, one with seams and one without. I definitely prefer the one without seams (on the right below). They are pretty darned cute if I do say so myself. One pair will go to a friend and the other to my sister.
The thing I most like about knitting baby clothes is that because they are small, its a much shorter project to complete. Plus, if you make a mistake and have to rip some of the pattern out, there is much less that needs to be eliminated. All in all, I feel pretty proud of myself for learning something new, and pretty excited to send these little beauties off to their new home: scrunched up, little newborn feet.
