Well, the new addition to our family requires that some changes be made to our house. Namely, the back office/guest bedroom/crap repository needed to be transformed into a nursery. This needed to be done, like yesterday, as all of the baby crap is slowly and inexorably piling up in my living room. Seeing as I cannot tolerate such crap accumulation, Michael decided that it was time to start said transformation.
He began with removing the oh-so-lovely popcorn from the ceiling. Our house was built in the late 70's, which apparently, was popcorn heaven. The stuff is everywhere and it is obnoxious. It is constantly getting accidentally scraped off whenever we move tall items, reach for something high up or turn on the fans. Plus it may or may not have asbestos in it. Yikes! So it needed to go. What better place to start than our future child's room? After all, we can't have baby breathing asbestos!
He began spraying water on the ceiling and then scraping it. It actually came off relatively quickly and within an hour, it was off. It was strange watching the ceiling being removed in long, nubby sheets. He then needed to re-texture the ceiling to match the walls. I believe the walls are textured with 'orange peel,' which is just a smaller, more chic type of texture (because as we all know, texture just isn't worth messing with unless it's chic!). Anyway, once the new texture was up, all he had to do was paint, and then he was done!
The next step was my idea: adding crown molding. The rest of the house has crown and it looks fabulous. The previous owners chumped out though and only installed it in the main living areas, not in any of the bedrooms. It was time to class this nursery up! This baby better appreciate all the effort we are going through before it even takes its first breath!
It took the better part of a Saturday, but we managed to get the new molding up. I caulked it and have plans to paint it within the next few days. If I do say so myself, it looks pretty darn good in that nursery. Much better than before. This is going to be one classy kid!
