. . . Star Lilies that is. The lilies are SO fantastic this year. I first planted them last year and they never got taller than 2 feet. I was ok with that because they were sufficiently gorgeous. This year however? They are easily 6 feet tall! Blame months of cool, wet weather, but these beauties are giants. As they are significantly larger, they also are producing WAY more flowers. That my friends is a double bonus! You may recall that I planted several new varieties this past spring. Those did not get as big as the 2 year old plants, but I am sure they will be plenty large next year.
The only downside to these plants is their short flowering times. Each flower only lasts a few days and they are generally done flowering after about a week. Their incredible simultaneous show makes planting them worthwhile however. I also love that they don't take up much space and add much needed height to the back perennial border. I could go on and on but instead I will just show you some pictures :)
From the top: Lilium 'Spring Pink', 'Casablanca', 'Stargazer', 'Scarlet Delight', 'Flore Pleno', 'Serene Angel', 'Magic Star'
