The rapid pace at which work had been completed these last few months, came to a grinding halt this past week. There were several scheduling conflicts which meant guys couldn't get here, some materials didn't get shipped in time and some of the work already completed, needed to be re-done. As a result, the house basically sat empty with little progress this whole week. It was a bit of a let down to be honest. Its ok in the end though, by Friday some of the crews came back and some things were finally accomplished.
The hardwood floors were installed, all the rest of the cabinets were installed, the garage door was installed and the exterior got painted. Supposedly next week the rest of the flooring will be installed (laminate in the hall bath and laundry room, tile in the master bathroom and carpet in the rest of the upstairs), the painter is supposed to come back and finish painting the interiors, and the electrician will finish installing the lights and switches. He came last week but he didn't bring all of the right switches that we requested, and some of the lights that we ordered had not yet arrived. So hopefully when he comes the next time, he can completely finish the job. In the mean time, there are switches and switch-plate covers as well as outlets and covers in most locations.
So the house is definitely looking more finished. Additionally the heat has also been on for the past several weeks and last week they installed the thermostat, so its kind of fun to walk into a house that now has heat and lights. It most definitely makes us feel more like we are walking into a home and not a construction site. The biggest milestone this week was the installation of the kitchen cabinets. That certainly makes the downstairs look so much more complete. The installation is not totally complete. They still have to install some more boards to take the cabinets to the ceiling, and some other finish boards and molding have to be added, but it sure is exciting to walk into the kitchen and see what its going to be like, finished, in a few short weeks!
