The most worrisome thing is that the new house is not likely to quite be done by that point. So we will be able to move our stuff into the garage, and pile it into the interior of the house in some places, but won't actually be able to move in for another week or so after that. Michael's parents have graciously said that we can stay with them (much more pleasant than a hotel) for as long as it takes to finish. I am hoping less than a week.
Nevertheless, things are progressing rapidly at the new house, though never as fast as I would like. From the last update, the gutters have been installed, nearly all of the molding has been installed and painted, the kitchen island has been installed. All of the toilets have been installed and almost all of the bathroom fixtures are in place (the master tub fixtures are still in progress), all the doors have been installed but not the handles, utility sinks are in place, the landscaping is nearing completion and all of the hard surfaces have been poured in the front and back yard.
The schedule this week calls for electrical, plumbing and painting to happen tomorrow, more electrical, carpet and carpentry on Thursday, and after that it will be a race to the finish to get all the rest of the contractors in to finish last minute details like fixing the chipped counter top in the powder room, replacing broken lights, replacing broken or missing tiles, touching up scratches in the paint in the interior and exterior, cleaning the house (professional house cleaners will come and clean all of the construction debris from top to bottom, and lots of other little but important things. My best guess is that with any luck we will be able to fully move in by the 8th, but hopefully sooner.
About the only good thing about having to wait to move in, is that the house is pretty stinky with fresh paint and an extra week will be good for airing everything out. Having fresh carpet installed in a few days will only add to the smell. Thank goodness it is summer and we can just leave all the windows open all summer to air the place out!
Anyway at this point we are just trying to get everything organized and ready to load into the uhaul come Friday night. And then we'll finish up the bulk of the moving on Saturday. Its supposed to be in the 90's that day so it should be a fun time for all ;) Its hard for me to believe that we are truly leaving this house. So many big events happened here. Michael and I got engaged in the kitchen, and had our stag parties start here, both kids were born here (in each of the living rooms), Will and Nora have spent their entire lives here. If it cost us nothing to keep the place, we would, out of sheer sentimentality. While we are excited for the next chapter, we can't help but be sad to leave this house full of so many wonderful memories. I suppose now we just have to go on and make plenty of new, fabulous ones in the new house. :)
